Improving FMCW GPR Precision through the CZT Algorithm for Pavement Thickness Measurements

Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) application in road surface detection has been greatly developed the past few decades, which enables rapid and economical estimation of pavement thickness other physical properties non-destructive testing (NDT) non-contact (NCT). In recent years, with development microwave millimeter-wave solid-state devices digital signal processors, cost Frequency-Modulated Continuous-Wave (FMCW) radar dropped significantly, smaller size lighter weight. Thereafter, FMCW GPR is considered to be applied during inspection. To improve precision for NDT NCT thickness, a Chirp Z-transform (CZT) algorithm introduced investigated this paper. A + CZT at 2.5 GHz bandwidth 1 was built, laboratory field experiments were carried out. The experimental results demonstrate that can obtain sample low error recognize subtle variations. This method realizes high measurement shallow asphalt by narrow pulse would provide promising low-cost solution GPR.
